CURRICULUM
CTI is registered and accredited by DHERST as a tertiary institution. It is affiliated with the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
I. CTI offers the following programmes for students studying to be ordained as Catholic priests. These students need to be sponsored by a diocese or religious congregation.
A. Two-year philosophy programme:
Entrance Requirement: Grade 12 with a C in English, Completion of at least one -year of preparatory studies, a score of at least 4.5 on our English proficiency test.
B. Four-year theology programme:
Entrance Requirement: completion of philosophical studies
II. Programme for religious brothers and sisters or interested laity
Entrance Requirement: At least a Grade 10 and two years of religious life or formal employment.
III. CTI offers the following programmes for interested laity, including non-Catholics.
Entrance Requirements: Grade 12 with a C in English, a score of at least 4.5 on our English
proficiency test.
IV. Exit awards are given to students who do not complete all the requirements for an award as long as at least one year of full-time study has been completed.
Lay students may attend as part-time students. All instruction is face to face.

A. Two-year philosophy programme:
Entrance Requirement: Grade 12 with a C in English, Completion of at least one -year of preparatory studies, a score of at least 4.5 on our English proficiency test.
- Diploma in Philosophy (DipPh) – 90 credits, including Latin, philosophy research paper, extra philosophy. This programme follows the requirement of Veritatis Gaudium and the Ratio Nationalis for the study of philosophy.
- Diploma in Philosophical Studies (DipPS) – 80 credits, basic course of philosophical studies described in the Ratio Nationalis.
B. Four-year theology programme:
Entrance Requirement: completion of philosophical studies
- Bachelor of Sacred Theology (STB) – 180 credits, including two years of Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and theology research paper. This programme follows the requirements of Veritatis Gaudium and the Ratio for theological study as well as DHERST’s guidelines for a Bachelor Degree. The STB Degree is awarded by the University of Santo Tomas (Manila).
- Bachelor of Theology – Research Concentration (BTh-R) – Same requirements as STB, but for students who are not eligible for the STB because they did not complete the equivalent of the DipPH.
- Bachelor of Theology (BTh) – 163 credits, including some language study, and a theology research paper. The programme follows the requirements of the Ratio for theological study as well as DHERST’s guidelines for a Bachelor Degree.
- Associate Degree in Theology (ADTh) – 154 credits, simpler comprehensive exam, no research paper or languages. This programme follows the minimal requirements of the Ratio.
II. Programme for religious brothers and sisters or interested laity
Entrance Requirement: At least a Grade 10 and two years of religious life or formal employment.
- Certificate of Christian Studies – 40 credits. Introductory classes on social science, philosophy, and the different areas of Catholic Theology. Graduates are qualified to be ordained as lectors and/or acolytes.
III. CTI offers the following programmes for interested laity, including non-Catholics.
Entrance Requirements: Grade 12 with a C in English, a score of at least 4.5 on our English
proficiency test.
- Certificate in Philosophy – 45 credits. Overview of western philosophy that is meant to be taken part-time over 5 terms.
- Bachelor of Christian Studies – 172 credits, including a theology program. This programme begins with the study of philosophy and concludes with the study of all the areas of Catholic theology. This programme follows DHERST’s guidelines for a Bachelor Degree.
IV. Exit awards are given to students who do not complete all the requirements for an award as long as at least one year of full-time study has been completed.
Lay students may attend as part-time students. All instruction is face to face.
